Position Summary
The Financial Controller supervises all property accounting functions, including accounting, accounts payable, receiving, payroll, revenue audit, purchasing, and Cage operations. This role oversees internal and external financial reporting, supports Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts, and performs other duties as assigned by management. The Controller plans and organizes fiscal operations, assigns workloads, trains and motivates staff, evaluates performance, and directs operational adjustments to achieve financial goals within available resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Direct all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and fixed assets.
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and applicable regulatory requirements.
Manage and monitor cash flow, banking relationships, and financial forecasting.
Lead the budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with property leadership.
Oversee internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate documentation and submission.
Collaborate with corporate finance and regulatory agencies, including preparation of reports required by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) and Kentucky Gaming Commission.
Provide financial guidance, training, and data-driven insights to operational departments.
Manage the finance and accounting team, offering leadership, coaching, and professional development.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting or finance experience; gaming, hospitality, or entertainment industry experience strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
Proficiency with financial systems and ERP software.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming License as a condition of employment.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
Must be able to concentrate for extended periods with frequent interruptions.
