Chief Operations Officer

Job Summary

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of the executive leadership team that is to collaborate and work closely with the President as to then execute the objectives set forth, as well as responsible for driving operational excellence, efficiency, and scalability across the organization. This role oversees all core operational functions, including supply chain, logistics, branch performance, inventory management, OPEX discipline, and field execution. The COO ensures that operations are aligned with company’s Core Values including development of people and profitable income growth. The COO partners closely with Executive, Regional, and District leadership to support revenue objectives and ultimately net profit/budget achievement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Operational P&L Oversight and Budgeting

  • Develop and execute operational strategies that support company growth, scalability, and profitability
  • Directly and/or indirectly oversee daily operations across all regions, districts, and branch locations
  • Development and/or execution of operational standards, policies, and procedures
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to take corrective action to ensure targets/budgets are met
  • Lead Annual “ground up” annual budgeting. Collaborate with CRO for sales and then develop operational budgets in conjunction with accounting.
  • Review monthly branch PnL’s to assess performance (including revenue, expenses and profitability) and driver corrective action with RVP’s, DM’s, or BM’s to achieve company goals/budgets.

Supply Chain, Logistics & Inventory Management

  • Collaboration and strategy regarding supply chain operations, inventory planning, warehousing, and transportation
  • Optimize inventory levels (ie obtain inventory budget levels) while ensuring product availability to manage working capital effectively
  • Improve delivery performance, routing efficiency, and fleet utilization
  • Strengthen vendor relationships and oversee supplier performance, pricing, etc.
  • Drive standardization and best practices across distribution and logistics operations

Branch & Field Operations

  • Provide leadership and direction to Regional and District Managers (and potentially BMs) to ensure strong branch performance, which includes spending time at branches and developing relationships accordingly.
  • Drive accountability for branch-level performance.
  • Support operational readiness for growth initiatives, including new branch openings and market expansion
  • Ensure high service standards, order accuracy, and on-time delivery across all locations

Process Improvement & Systems Optimization

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across operational functions
  • Evaluate and implement scalable systems, including ERP, warehouse management, and routing tools
  • Use data and analytics to drive informed decision-making and operational improvements
  • Standardize workflows to support consistency and efficiency across the network

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, transportation standards, and company policies
  • Promote a strong safety culture and reduce workplace incidents
  • Oversee risk management practices across operations, including fleet and facility safety

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing operations team
  • Coach and mentor Regional and District Managers to strengthen leadership capabilities
  • Partner with HR on workforce planning, recruitment, and training initiatives
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
  • Support organizational change initiatives to drive growth and adaptability

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Operations, Supply Chain, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of senior operations leadership experience, preferably in building materials, roofing, or distribution
  • Proven track record of leading multi-site operations and driving operational improvements at scale
  • Strong financial, analytical, and strategic thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large teams in a fast-paced, service-driven environment
  • Must be able to travel 55-65% and shall office out of BSC in Tampa (although patrial remote officing is possible).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with ERP systems and operational data analysis
  • Deep understanding of distribution networks, logistics, and inventory management Experience improving operational efficiency, cost structure, and service performance
  • Track record of building strong operational teams and scalable processes
