Our client, a leading large-scale retail group, is seeking a commercially driven and transformation-focused Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will play a pivotal role in driving financial performance, leading transformation initiatives, and unlocking value across the organization.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have led complex transformation journeys and turnaround of acquired businesses or brands.
Role Overview
As CFO, you will own the end-to-end financial agenda while acting as a strategic partner to the CEO and Board. Beyond financial stewardship, you will be expected to lead enterprise-wide transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the company’s financial strategy in line with growth and value creation objectives.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board, providing strategic insight on performance, investments, and risk.
- Lead all core finance functions, including FP&A, financial control, IFRS reporting, treasury, tax, and cash flow management.
- Drive budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
- Ensure strong governance, compliance, and internal controls across the organization.
- Optimize working capital, cash flow, and capital allocation strategies.
- Lead evaluation and execution of strategic investments, including M&A opportunities.
Transformation & Value Creation Focus:
- Lead post-acquisition integration processes, ensuring financial, operational, and cultural alignment.
- Drive turnaround and transformation of acquired brands/business units, improving profitability and operational efficiency.
- Identify and deliver synergies, cost optimization initiatives, and margin enhancement opportunities.
- Redesign finance operating models to support scalability and performance.
- Champion finance digitalization, automation, and ERP (SAP) optimization initiatives.
- Build robust KPI frameworks to track transformation progress and value realization.
- Build and lead a high-performing finance organization, developing strong second-line leadership.
- Drive change management initiatives across the business in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- Partner closely with commercial, supply chain, and operations teams to improve overall business performance.
- Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, investors, and regulators.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and develop a high-performing, multi-layered finance team.
- Build strong leadership bench and ensure effective succession planning.
- Foster a performance-driven and collaborative culture.
- Set clear KPIs and drive accountability across the team.
- Attract, retain, and develop top finance talent.
- Ensure strong cross-functional alignment with business stakeholders.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Business Administration; MBA or professional certifications (CPA, CMA, CFA) strongly preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive finance experience, with significant exposure to retail and/or FMCG sectors.
- Proven experience as CFO or senior finance leader within large, complex organizations.
- Strong background in IFRS reporting, consolidation, and financial governance.
- Demonstrated experience in leading transformation initiatives, particularly post-merger integration and business turnaround.
- Track record of managing and scaling acquired businesses, delivering measurable value creation.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate strategy into execution.
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
- Experience managing large, multi-layered, and multicultural teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with Board exposure.
- Fluent in English.
