Here's the role at a glance that might be beneficial for you to know:
- Overall responsibility for the end-to-end finance operations and reporting for Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBMy) and Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Malaysia (MBFS My), incl. Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Singapore (MBFS Sg) and all related legal entities.
- Lead the integrated accounting and financial reporting function for MBMy, MBFS My and MBFS Sg and manage the dedicated FO accounting teams in Malaysia as well as at Mercedes-Benz Group Services Philippines (MBGSP).
- Ensure accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of accounting records and financial reporting in compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and tax laws.
- Oversee the accounts receivables and payables management in collaboration with the respective teams at MBGSP.
- Continuously optimize accounting, financial operations and reporting procedures with regards to efficiency, effectiveness, and accuracy.
- Manage statutory audits, internal audits, and further accounting related requests.
Job Task
(1) Financial Oversight:
- Lead and ensure accuracy, integrity, and timely presentation of all financial reports, general ledgers, and accounting records for all legal entities.
- Ensure adherence of financial reports, general ledgers, and accounting records to internal policies, accounting standards (IFRS and local GAAP), and tax laws.
- Review financial statements for relevant movements, follow-up on anomalies and strive for an optimization of financial key indicators.
- Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations based on financial analysis and performance.
(2) Operational Excellence & Process Optimization:
- Oversee and optimize the end-to-end accounting processes for GL and sub-ledgers, including Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), Fixed Assets, and Inventory.
- Ensure accurate and timely statutory reporting, including tax reporting for the financial services entities.
- Collaborate closely with external tax advisors to facilitate accurate and smooth submission of tax-related documents.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging digitalization activities to enhance efficiency, productivity, and data-driven decision-making.
- Continuously monitor and analyze industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving regulatory landscapes to drive process optimization, ensure compliance, and identify strategic opportunities for finance operations.
- Foster harmonization and streamlining of processes across the entities in line with the FO target operating model.
- Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for financial operations and drive performance to achieve set targets and benchmarks for excellence.
- Optimize resource allocation and management for the finance operations function, ensuring compliance with budget and FTE targets.
(3) Stakeholder Engagement & Project Management:
- Provide senior management and business leadership with transparent financial insights and strategic recommendations to optimize financial performance and support decision-making.
- Collaborate and partner regularly with all relevant business functions on accounting-related matters, ensuring alignment and effective support for business objectives.
- Coordinate and liaise regularly with HQ, FO, MBGSP, and other regional CAO functions to ensure global alignment, best practice sharing, and effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Drive HQ and FO projects, specifically focusing on the harmonization and standardization of accounting procedures across all markets.
- Lead the implementation of strategic projects and initiatives enhancing finance operations.
- Actively represent financial aspects and provide expert financial input in company-wide strategic projects and initiatives.
- Oversee the closure of the legal entity Mercedes-Benz Business Services.
(4) Compliance & Audit:
- Ensure continuous compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, accounting standards, tax regulations and company policies and guidelines, and proactively adapt procedures, systems, and controls to reflect regulatory changes and evolving standards.
- Maintain a robust Internal Controls System (ICS) and ensure the proper and timely performance of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) in line with group requirements.
- Manage and coordinate internal and external audits (statutory, corporate, government, tax), including audit preparation, responding to inquiries, and ensuring timely resolution of findings.
- Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate financial and compliance risks within the accounting operations, ensuring adequate risk mitigation strategies are in place.
- Cultivate and embed a strong culture of integrity, ethical conduct, and compliance throughout the accounting function.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing, integrated FO team in Malaysia and the Philippines.
- Drive the successful integration of the unified FO team across all legal entities, responsibilities, and business models, fostering synergy and collaboration.
- Foster a performance-oriented culture by setting target agreements, promoting accountability, and conducting regular performance evaluations and feedback sessions.
- Cultivate a culture of open communication and cooperation, facilitating effective collaboration among team members.
- Ensure team members are well-equipped for their daily tasks and support continuous learning and professional growth for the team through training, mentorship, and on-the-job development opportunities, e.g. strategic projects.
Qualifications
Education level:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a related field
- CPA or equivalent certification preferred
- At least 8-10 years of relevant work experience in accounting
- Experience in working in an international environment
- Experience in process harmonization and projects
- Experience in leading teams
Competencies
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations (ICFR standards, Local / IFRS GAAP, tax and legislation etc.)
- Excellent communications skills (verbal and written) in English, German, Bahasa Malaysia or other languages are of an added advantage
- Strong compliance and solution-oriented mindset
- Independent and self-driven personality with proven ability to foster and drive a high-performance culture
- Ability to drive digital transformation and automation initiatives (e.g. Power BI)
- Proficiency in financial software and tools (SAP Finance, Communication Tools, Reporting packages)
