SUMMARY:
POSITION INFO:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Financial Controller to join our ESA
finance team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong
financial controls, and supporting business growth through strategic financial planning.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, excellent analytical skills,
and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare monthly management accounts and ensure timely reporting
- Perform full P&L and balance sheet reconciliations between ERP and Group systems
- Manage month-end close processes, including accruals, sub-ledger, and intercompany
reconciliations
- Ensure compliance with local accounting, tax, and statutory requirements (PAYE, SHIF,
NSSF, Pension, NITA)
- Support internal and external audits by providing accurate documentation
- Assist with VAT returns and tax declarations in line with regulations
- Maintain fixed asset register and calculate monthly depreciation
- Oversee cash flow management and prepare forecasts
- Manage service level agreements, accruals, and ensure correct accounting periods
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable to ensure timely payments and minimize bad debt
risk
Budgeting & Financial Planning:
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
- Assist in the preparation and execution of the annual budget
- Contribute to strategic financial planning and organisational growth initiatives
- Ensure budget data is accurately uploaded into financial systems
Compliance, Governance & Risk:
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, G3 requirements, and Delegation of Authority
- Implement and monitor robust financial control frameworks
- Ensure proper documentation for foreign vendor payments
- Safeguard company assets through sound governance practices
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (minimum requirement)
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CA, ACCA, CIMA) is highly desirable
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial management, including 2+ years in a senior
role
- Experience in the East Africa region is advantageous
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting standards
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
