POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and cash management functions of the Club. This position assists in ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with GAAP, safeguarding of Club assets, and the timely preparation of financial information for management, committees, auditors, and the Board of Directors. The Assistant Controller also provides day-to-day supervision of accounting staff and serves as a key resource for departmental managers.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
  • Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Monitor revenue recognition and expense allocations in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintains fixed asset records, capital additions, depreciation schedules, and capital project accounting to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with Club policies.
  • Support inventory accounting and periodic inventory counts.
  • Oversee daily cash reconciliation processes and bank account reconciliations.
  • Ensure proper documentation and approval of expenditures.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard Club assets.
  • Ensure compliance with Club policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with annual external audits and tax preparation processes.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of accounting procedures and best practices.
  • Participate in the development and documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting team members, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture within the department.
  • Work closely with department heads to review financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support preparation of reports for Finance Committee and Board meetings.
  • Assist with member inquiries related to billing and financial matters.
  • Participate in special projects, software implementations, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience at an upscale Club, Hotel/Resort or other Hospitality business, with a thorough understanding of operations and superior Member/Guest Services.
