About the Role
The Assistant Accounting role supports the Finance team in executing day-to-day accounting operations by processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with accounts payable, reconciliations, and month-end activities.
Responsibilities
1. Invoice Processing & Verification
- Receive and review supplier invoices for completeness and accuracy.
- Match invoices against purchase orders and supporting documentation before processing.
- Escalate invoice discrepancies to the Financial Controller for resolution.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical records of invoices and supporting documents.
2. Accounts Payable Support
- Prepare supplier invoices for processing within Oracle ERP.
- Assist in preparing payment batches in accordance with approved payment schedules.
- Update supplier records and payment status within the ERP system.
- Respond to routine supplier payment inquiries and escalate complex issues where necessary.
3. Accounting Records & Reconciliations
- Assist in preparing bank, supplier, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Support monthly reconciliations of accounts payable balances.
- Maintain accurate accounting documentation and filing systems.
- Assist in identifying and reporting discrepancies for investigation.
4. Month-End & Financial Close Support
- Support month-end closing activities by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
- Assist with journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations as assigned.
- Provide documentation required for internal and external audits.
5. Administrative & Finance Support
- Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with company procedures.
- Assist in preparing routine financial reports and schedules.
- Support the Finance team with administrative tasks related to accounting operations.
- Perform other finance-related duties assigned by the Finance Management.
Education / Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting certifications (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CMA) or progress towards obtaining one are considered an advantage but are not mandatory.
Experience
- 0–3 years of experience in accounting, finance, or accounts payable.
- Fresh graduates with relevant internships or practical training in accounting are encouraged to apply.
- Experience using ERP systems (e.g., Oracle Financials or similar) is preferred.
Knowledge / Technical Skills
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
- Knowledge of accounts payable procedures and invoice processing.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Good numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively within a team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
