Analytics Assistant – Entry Level Jobs in Vienna, Vienna, Austria at Blue Oak Consulting
Title: Analytics Assistant – Entry Level
Company: Blue Oak Consulting
Location: Vienna, Vienna, Austria
Blue Oak Consulting provides a specific type of financial interrogation for boards and investors making high-stakes decisions. Our team is currently advising a client in Vienna on a series of pricing and portfolio adjustments within the logistics sector. This project involves examining large sets of operational data from their Central European hubs to identify where value is being lost. We are adding an Analytics Assistant to this fully remote team to help organize, verify, and test the data flowing from this client engagement.
Employment setup
This is a permanent, full-time position with Blue Oak Consulting, a firm based in the United Kingdom. This is a fully remote role, and we welcome applications from candidates who have the legal right to work in their current country of residence. Because much of the current work involves our client in Vienna, the role requires a full-time workload that overlaps significantly with Central European Time. You will report directly to a Principal Advisor. Our hiring process includes a review of your background, a short practical data exercise, and two video interviews to discuss your logical approach to problem-solving. This is a paid position offering attractive pay for entry-level professionals.
About the role
Unlike many consulting firms that use large teams of junior staff to produce high volumes of presentation slides, we operate with a lean, principal-led model. In this role, you will work alongside experienced advisors who deal directly with board-level questions. Your primary function is to serve as the first line of defense against bad data. You will take raw exports from client systems, clean them, and look for the inconsistencies that usually hide in the margins of corporate spreadsheets. This is not about automated reporting: it is about identifying why a specific number does not make sense and bringing those findings to the team.
What you will do
- Review and clean datasets provided by our client in Vienna to ensure they are ready for modeling.
- Cross-reference internal client reports with external benchmarks to find unexplained variances.
- Update and maintain Excel-based pricing models used during advisory sessions.
- Identify and document instances of potential double-counting or omitted costs in acquisition assumptions.
- Draft clear, concise summaries of data anomalies for the Principal Advisors.
- Verify the math in finalized reports to ensure every figure is defensible and accurate.
- Assist in building basic data visualizations that help clarify complex portfolio trends.
What we are looking for
- A logical and slightly skeptical mindset when looking at financial spreadsheets.
- Comfortable using Excel for data sorting, basic formulas, and pivot tables.
- The ability to write clearly and explain a technical finding without using unnecessary jargon.
- High attention to detail, specifically the ability to spot a rounding error or a missing data point in a large set.
- A background in, or current study toward, a degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of corporate financial statements like profit and loss or balance sheets.
- Curiosity about how businesses actually make money versus how they claim to make money.
Helpful background
- Some exposure to data tools such as SQL or basic Python for data cleaning.
- Interest in logistics, supply chains, or industrial operations.
- Previous experience in a role that required high accuracy in data entry or reporting.
- Familiarity with interpreting standardized accounting reports.
What the role offers
- Direct exposure to how major commercial decisions are structured and executed.
- A workspace free from the typical corporate fluff associated with large consulting firms.
- The opportunity to learn a skeptical, evidence-based approach to financial analysis.
- Consistent work on complex, interesting problems with high-level visibility.
- The flexibility of a fully remote environment with a focus on output rather than hours spent at a desk.
About Blue Oak
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We focus on commercial decisions where the financial consequences are material and the standard narrative is no longer sufficient. Our work is largely about reading numbers with skepticism to see what they might be hiding. We test whether the logic behind a commercial move actually holds under pressure or if it depends on assumptions that have not been properly stressed. We work directly with boards, management teams, and investors to identify where value is leaking and where capital is trapped. We stay involved through execution because many decisions that look sound in theory fail when they meet real friction. Our independence is fundamental. We help our clients find clarity by separating what is carrying a decision from what is merely decorative.
