About the Role

Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the Accounting Manager will lead the day-to-day accounting operations of a rapidly transforming global consumer products organization with significant e-commerce, wholesale, and inventory-based operations.

This role is responsible for managing the monthly close process, overseeing accounting staff, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting accurate and timely financial reporting. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader with strong experience in e-commerce, inventory accounting, and multi-channel revenue environments.

This is a high-visibility role with a clear path to becoming the operational leader of the accounting department. You will have meaningful ownership from day one, with direct impact on how the finance function is built and scaled.

What You'll Own

Financial Close & General Ledger Management

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.

• Review and approve journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

• Ensure timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations.

• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.

• Monitor accounting activities to ensure compliance with US GAAP and company policies.

E-Commerce & Revenue Accounting

• Oversee accounting for direct-to-consumer (Shopify), wholesale, retail, and other revenue channels, including reviewing revenue recognition and related accounting under ASC 606.

• Ensure accurate accounting for returns, discounts, promotions, chargebacks, and sales deductions.

• Reconcile Shopify, payment processors, bank deposits, and related revenue streams.

Inventory & Cost Accounting

• Manage inventory accounting, reconciliations, reserves, and valuation analyses.

• Review inventory adjustments, write-offs, transfers, and costing methodologies.

• Reconcile inventory to third-party warehouse reports and participate in periodic cycle counts.

• Partner with supply chain teams to ensure accuracy and proper financial reporting.

Operational Accounting Oversight

• Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.

• Supervise payment processing, vendor management, billing, and collections activities.

• Review aging reports and support working capital improvement initiatives.

• Assist in maintaining strong controls surrounding cash receipts and disbursements.

Audit, Compliance & Controls

• Lead audit preparation and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors.

• Prepare and review audit schedules and supporting documentation.

• Assist with the implementation and documentation of accounting policies and procedures.

• Strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.

• Support compliance with sales tax, regulatory, and other reporting requirements.

Leadership & Team Development

• Directly supervise the Accounts Payable Specialist and Accounts Receivable Specialist.

• Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

• Establish accountability, performance expectations, and workflow management across the accounting team.

• Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Process Improvement & Systems

• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.

• Participate in ERP enhancements, system implementations, and reporting improvements.

• Develop documentation for key accounting processes and controls.

• Support finance transformation initiatives as the organization continues to scale.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.

• 7 to 10 or more years of progressive accounting experience in consumer products, beauty, or other inventory-intensive industries.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience managing accounting personnel.

• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and experience leading monthly close processes.

• Advanced Excel skills and extensive hands-on experience with NetSuite.

• Proactive and hands-on: you are equally comfortable setting standards and executing the operational work yourself.

• Must be based in the New York City metro area and willing to commute to our NYC office.

Bonus Points

• Shopify or other e-commerce platform accounting experience.

• Multi-channel revenue accounting experience across DTC, wholesale, and retail.

• Inventory accounting and cost accounting expertise.

• Experience working in high-growth, fast-moving, or operationally complex environments.

• Experience with multi-entity organizations and international operations, including transacting in foreign currencies.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $115,000 to $135,000, depending on experience.
