As our operations in Romania continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Chief Accountant / Accounting Manager to join our Bucharest office and take responsibility for the coordination, review, and accuracy of our accounting and financial processes.
About the Role
This role is suitable for a senior finance professional with strong accounting expertise, solid knowledge of Romanian fiscal and accounting legislation, and the ability to coordinate accounting activities in a commercial/distribution environment.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, able to review and improve accounting processes, and confident in working with internal teams, external accountants, auditors, tax authorities, banks, and business partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and review daily accounting operations, including purchases, sales, returns, expenses, payments, and other financial transactions.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable reconciliations with customers and suppliers.
- Review payment requests and ensure proper documentation and approval flow.
- Reconcile accounting stock records with ERP/SAP data and support accurate inventory-related reporting.
- Coordinate the preparation and review of tax calculations and declarations, including VAT, profit tax/income tax, environmental/green tax, packaging tax, Intrastat, and VAT refund documentation.
- Ensure the accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with Romanian legislation.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities, reconciliations, reporting, and audit preparation.
- Maintain proper organization and control of accounting documents, contracts, invoices, proofs, and supporting documentation.
- Act as a key contact for external accounting providers, auditors, ANAF, banks, and other relevant institutions.
- Prepare financial and management reports requested by the local management or group finance team.
- Identify process improvements and support better internal control, accuracy, and efficiency within the finance function.
Qualifications & Experience
- Solid experience in accounting, preferably in a commercial, distribution, retail, IT&C, or multinational environment.
- Previous experience as Chief Accountant, Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of Romanian accounting and tax legislation.
- Experience with ERP systems; SAP experience is highly appreciated.
- Good command of English, both written and spoken.
- Strong Excel skills and good analytical abilities.
- Ability to coordinate, review, prioritize, and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, responsibility, and a proactive approach.
- CECCAR qualification is considered an advantage.
What We Offer
- Salary range: 12,000 – 20,000 RON net/month, depending on experience and qualifications.
