Role Overview

Blue Heron is seeking an experienced, disciplined, and collaborative candidate to join our team as Accounting Associate. The Accounting Associate will support several aspects of financial operations of private equity funds and related real estate investments. The position will report to the Director of Finance and will work collaboratively across all areas of the firm. This full-time role is based in Blue Heron’s Raleigh, NC office, with the option for hybrid working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the financial operations of the firm, several private equity funds, and related business entities, including the collection, analysis, and consolidation of accounting transactions, treasury management, and budgeting
  • Prepare and process monthly bank reconciliations, journal entries, and accounts receivable/payable transactions
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with financial planning and analysis including cash flow analysis and forecasting
  • Ensure reporting compliance with financial accounting standards (GAAP) and regulatory agencies
  • Gather and prepare supporting documentation for annual fund financial statement audits and HUD property audits
  • Assist in preparation of annual tax returns and quarterly tax estimates for investors
  • Safeguard the firm’s assets under management by adhering to the firm’s internal controls
  • Contribute to development and growth of the finance team to meet needs across all business processes
  • ­Represent the firm in key relationships, which may include accountants, fund administrators, property management companies, investment partners, banks, and lenders
  • Collaborate with firm leadership and other members of the firm to support business objectives
  • ­Develop and implement continual improvement of policies and procedures

Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; master’s degree in accounting preferred
  • CPA (strongly preferred) or CPA candidate
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounting, including experience in public accounting preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP and related reporting requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with superior Excel skills
  • Proficiency in financial accounting systems
  • Experience with and ability to maintain confidential financial information
